The Day I Tried to Live - SOUNDGARDEN
-------------------------------------
(off of the album Superunknown)

The intro is played by two guitars, one slightly distorted, the other
with a clean tone....the distorted guitar's riff is played a few more
times in different parts of the song. Just listen to it to get all
the parts right:

guitar 1 (a little distortion):

e |--12----10--9-12\7--6---|-6--6/8-8/10----------------| Repeat
B |------------------------|----------------------------| this 6 times
G |------------------------|----------------------------|

guitar 2 (clear tone):

comes in on second measure the first cycle of the riff guitar one is playing

e |------------------------|-7\12--12--12/7--7--7\12----| repeat 4
B |------------------------|----------------------------| times
G |------------------------|----------------------------|

on fourth time play this for second guitar:

e |-12/7--7--7\12--12-13/7-| e |--14/8-8\14-14\8-14/7-|
B |------------------------| then this B |----------------------|
G |------------------------| G |----------------------|

then the bass and drums come in for their little intro and during that
the distorted guitar plays something close to this slowly in rythym
with the bass:

D -12-12-12-12-12---12-12/11-11/10--10-10-10-10-10---10/9-9/8--8-8-8-8-8

then comes the main riff, and oh how nice it is:

all strums are DOWN-

e |-7-7-7-7-7--7-7/6-6/5--5-5-5-5-5--5-5/4-4/3-3-3-|
B |-7-7-7-7-7--7-7/6-6/5--5-5-5-5-5--5-5/4-4/3-3-3-|
G |-8-8-8-8-8--8-8/7-7/6--6-6-6-6-6--6-6/5-5/4-4-4-|
D |-9-9-9-9-9--9-9/8-8/7--7-7-7-7-7--7-7/6-6/5-5-5-|
A |-9-9-9-9-9--9-9/8-8/7--7-7-7-7-7--7-7/6-6/5-5-5-|
E |-7-7-7-7-7--7-7/6-6/5--5-5-5-5-5--5-5/4-4/3-3-3-|

I'm not sure but I think that right before the main riff is played
this chord is strummed once :

e 6
B 6
G 7
D 8
A 8
E 6

the main riff is repeated it I think 5 times and then goes back into
the intro riff the distorted guitar played and then back into the main
riff later and then....you get it.

oh, towards the end there's a little dink of a riff that sort of hangs
there until the end - I forgot to figure that out but it shouldn't
exactly be difficult.

that's about it.

disclaimer: I figured ths out on an acoustic guitar so keep that in
mind while you fix the mistakes....

Here is an IMPROVED and COMPLETE tab for The Day I Tried to Live. Enjoy.

The Day I Tried To Live -- Soundgarden
>From "Superunknown"
Tabbed by Jeeves (philipe@basix.com)

Intro, Guitar 1 (Slight Distortion)

e |-10-9-7-10\4-4-4/7-7---------------------------|
B |-----------------------------------------------|
G |-----------------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------------|
A |-----------------------------------------------|
E |-----------------------------------------------|

Intro, Guitar 2 (Clear Tone)

Begin halfway through first cycle of guitar 1's riff.
Listen to the song to get the exact rhythm.

e |-10\4--7-9-9\7---------------------------------|
B |-----------------------------------------------|
G |-----------------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------------|
A |-----------------------------------------------|
E |-----------------------------------------------|

after 2 cycles of guitar 1, do this instead:

e |-15\10--15\10-15\10-15\7-----------------------|
B |-----------------------------------------------|
G |-----------------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------------|
A |-----------------------------------------------|
E |-----------------------------------------------|

Bass comes in here. This riff is doubled by one guitar
when the vocals start.

Em |-----------------------------------------------|
B |-----------------------------------------------|
G |-----------------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------------|
A |-77777-765433333-3-2-00000---------------------|
E |---------------------------0-------------------|

Play the above riff until the vocal line before the
chorus, and then do:

e |-----------------7644444-----------------------|
B |-----------------7644444-----------------------|
G |-----------------8755555-----------------------|
D |-----------------9866666-----------------------|
A |-77777-765433333-9866666-----------------------|
E |-----------------7644444-----------------------|
(...and watch the rolling heads)

Now start playing bar chords on the twelfth fret,
loud and distorted.

e |-12-12-12-12-12--12-11-10-9--8--8--8--8--8-----|
B |-12-12-12-12-12--12-11-10-9--8--8--8--8--8-----|
G |-13-13-13-13-13--13-12-11-10-9--9--9--9--9-----|
D |-14-14-14-14-14--14-13-12-11-10-10-10-10-10----|
A |-14-14-14-14-14--14-13-12-11-10-10-10-10-10----|
E |-12-12-12-12-12--12-11-10-9--8--8--8--8--8-----|

e |-8--7-55555------------------------------------|
B |-8--7-55555------------------------------------|
G |-9--8-66666------------------------------------|
D |-10-9-77777------------------------------------|
A |-10-9-77777------------------------------------|
E |-8--7-55555------------------------------------|

Depending on which verse you are on, the above riff
will repeat either two or four times.

Now, guitar one will play this:

e |-10-9-7-10\4-4-4-6-6---10-9-7-10\5-5-5-7-7-----|
B |-----------------------------------------------|
G |-----------------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------------|
A |-----------------------------------------------|
E |-----------------------------------------------|

And guitar two will play this, rather quietly:

e |-7-7-7-7-8--8--8--8--8--12-12-12-12------------|
B |-7-7-7-7-8--8--8--8--8--12-12-12-12------------|
G |-8-8-8-8-9--9--9--9--9--13-13-13-13------------|
D |-9-9-9-9-10-10-10-10-10-14-14-14-14------------|
A |-9-9-9-9-10-10-10-10-10-14-14-14-14------------|
E |-7-7-7-7-8--8--8--8--8--12-12-12-12------------|

e |-9--9--9--9--9---------------------------------|
B |-9--9--9--9--9---------------------------------|
G |-10-10-10-10-10--------------------------------|
D |-11-11-11-11-11--------------------------------|
A |-11-11-11-11-11--------------------------------|
E |-9--9--9--9--9---------------------------------|

Repeat twice (...one more time around might do it)

Then this little line, in the same style as the
one above (all the repeats of the first two
chords omitted for brevity):

Guitar 1 joins here
v
e |-12--7--9--9--9--9--9----9--8--7-6-55555-5422222-|
B |-12--7--9--9--9--9--9----9--8--7-6-55555-5422222-|
G |-13--8--10-10-10-10-10---10-9--8-7-66666-6533333-|
D |-14--9--11-11-11-11-11---11-10-9-8-77777-7644444-|
A |-14--9--11-11-11-11-11---11-10-9-8-77777-7644444-|
E |-12--7--9--9--9--9--9----9--8--7-6-55555-5422222-|

Go back to the verse riff if you need to, or repeat
the above riff several times for the "I learned that
I was a liar..." part. There are a couple more appearances
of the intro line later in the song, but they are not hard
to figure out.
